As of June 1, 2009, ALL operators of powered vessels, REGARDLESS OF AGE, will be required to possess a boating safety education certificate in order to legally operate in New Jersey. Even if you don’t own a boat, but simply operate a boat belonging to a relative or a friend, you must have a boat safety education certificate (also known as a boat license).

Once you complete a boater safety course and pass your written exam, you will receive the NJ Boating Safety Education Certificate that is required by law.
