Alabama Boating License Overview

Boat Alabama is the official boating safety course of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Taking this safe boating course will allow you to get your Alabama boating license online.

Take the official boating license test

Take the Alabama Boating Exam. Pay $29.50—one time only, after you pass. When you pass, you will receive your Boating Course Certificate of Completion from the Alabama Marine Police Division by mail.

You must be at least 12 years of age to take the online boating test and to be eligible for your Alabama Boater Safety Certification.

To obtain Alabama Boater Safety Certification, you must go to the Department of Public Safety Driver's License Examining Office in your county of residence and present your Boating Course Certificate of Completion. Then take the proper form to a Probate or License Commissioners office to have the "V" endorsement placed on your automobile driver's license. (If you do not have an automobile driver's license, you will be issued a "Vessel Only" license.)  Read more about how to obtain your Alabama Boater Safety Certification.
