Alabama Boating Course
The Alabama Boating Course Certificate of Completion is proof that a boater has demonstrated basic boating knowledge by passing an approved boating safety course and exam.
If you are under 12 years of age: You may not obtain your Alabama boater safety certification, and you may not operate a vessel under any circumstances.
If you are 12 or 13 years of age: You may obtain your Alabama boater safety certification. After obtaining the certification, you may operate a vessel legally only if supervised on board by a person who:
If you are 14 years of age or older: After obtaining Alabama boater safety certification, you may operate a vessel without supervision legally.
The minimum age to take the online boater safety certification exam is 12 years old.
To be eligible for the Alabama Boating Course Certificate of Completion you must first pass the online Certification Exam which costs $29.50.
You will receive you Boating Course Certificate of Completion from the Alabama Marine Police Division by mail 2-3 weeks after passing the Certification Exam.
Additionally, in the process of presenting the Boating Course Certificate of Completion at your Department of Public Safety Driver's License Examining Office, there is an additional payment of a one time application fee of $5.00 plus a $23.50 issuance fee for the license.
Your Alabama Boating Course Certificate of Completion will be mailed to your home within 2–3 weeks after you pass the exam.
A temporary certificate is not issued. Upon passing the exam, The Alabama Marine Police issues the Boating Course Certificate of Completion. The applicant should receive it in the mail within 2–3 weeks of passing the online exam.
For a replacement course certificate, the applicant must send a written request for a replacement to the Alabama Marine Police, including a $5 check or money order for handling fee, with his/her name, date of birth, social security number, mailing address, and year that the certificate was issued. Also, in the written request indicate the type of instruction received (online, classroom, etc.). The address for the Alabama Marine Police is: Alabama Marine Police 64 N.
