Louisiana Boating Course
The Louisiana boater education certificate (also referred to as the Louisiana Boaters License) is proof that a boater has demonstrated basic boating knowledge by passing an approved boating safety course and exam.
The Louisiana boater education certificate (commonly known as the Louisiana boating license) is proof that a boater has successfully completed a boating safety course. Persons born after January 1, 1984, may not operate a motorboat or PWC powered by a motor in excess of 10 horsepower unless he or she has successfully completed a boating safety course approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA). These persons must be in possession of evidence of completion of the approved course whenever operating such a vessel.
There is no minimum age to take the online course and boater exam.
The online Certification Exam costs $24.50. There is no charge for the Louisiana boater education certificate.
No. You have unlimited attempts at the Certification Exam; and after you pass, payment of the $24.50 fee will be required.
Your Louisiana boater education certificate will be mailed to your home within 2–3 weeks after you pass the exam.
Upon passing the exam, you may immediately print out a temporary certificate valid for 60 days.

It is illegal for anyone under the age of 16 years to operate a PWC.
It is also unlawful for a person who owns or has charge of a personal watercraft to knowingly permit a person under the age of 16 years to operate the PWC. It is illegal for a rental company to rent a personal watercraft to anyone under 16 years of age.
