Chapter 4: The Legal Requirements of Boating
Enforcement

Authorized Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks officers have peace officer status for enforcing boating regulations. Sheriffs, peace officers, and U.S. Coast Guard law enforcement officers also have authority to enforce these provisions.

Fish, Wildlife & Parks wardens are authorized to stop, halt, or inspect vessels in order to enforce Montana laws.

The U.S. Coast Guard has enforcement authority on federally-controlled waters.
