Official Boater Safety Course for New Hampshire

The Boat New Hampshire online boater safety course is the official authorized NASBLA and state-approved course developed by Boat Ed for the New Hampshire Department of Safety.

Boating citation? You must take a classroom course.

Beginning January 1, 2007, New Hampshire law requires that everyone pass an in-person exam in order to apply for the required New Hampshire Safe Boater Education Certificate issued by the New Hampshire Department of Safety. Once you have obtained your New Hampshire Safe Boater Education Certificate, you have fulfilled the requirements of the law. There is no legal obligation to take a boating safety course again. It is a once-in-a-lifetime requirement.

How do I get my New Hampshire Safe Boater Education Certificate?

  1. Please do not call to register for an in-person examination until AFTER you have successfully completed the online course. There is a two-day waiting period after completing the Online Exam successfully before registration for an in-person exam is allowed.
  2. Study the New Hampshire safe boating course material and take one or more Practice Tests.
  3. Take the New Hampshire online exam for $34.50, collected online.
    • You must be at least 15 years old to take the online exam.
    • If you are required to take a boating safety course because you have received a boating citation, you must take a classroom course.
  4. When you pass, you will be able to immediately print out an Online Exam Results Slip. Your Online Exam Results Slip will serve as your admittance ticket to an in-person examination.
  5. Two days after passing the exam, call New Hampshire Boating Education at 1-888-254-2125 to schedule a time for an in-person examination at one of numerous locations. Passing the online exam allows you to register for the in-person exam one time at no additional cost.
  6. Upon passing the in-person exam, you may apply for your Safe Boater Education Certificate from the New Hampshire Department of Safety.

What's the difference between a boating license and a boating safety education certificate?

What it's called depends on your state, but it represents the same thing—proof of completion of an approved boater education course. Most boaters don't know the exact name of the official certification for their state, so they commonly refer to it as a boating license.

Passing the New Hampshire boating safety course may make you eligible for a discount on your boat or PWC insurance. Send a copy of your boater safety certificate to your agent and start saving!
