It's the Law: On the Water

  • Nevada Department of Wildlife game wardens, sheriffs, and other peace officers have the authority to enforce the boating laws of Nevada.
  • The U.S. Coast Guard also has enforcement authority on Lake Tahoe and the Colorado River System (includes Lake Mead, Lake Mohave, and the Colorado River below Davis Dam). In addition, the U.S. National Park Service also has enforcement authority on Lake Mead and Lake Mohave.
  • It is illegal to refuse to stop or move when commanded to do so by a person with law enforcement authority.
  • Officers have the authority to stop and board your vessel in order to check that you are complying with state and federal laws.
