New Requirements for Oregon Online Boater Certification
Effective March 15, 2010
Oregon State Marine Board (OSMB) has established new regulations that govern the delivery of boater education courses and certification, including online courses (or “Internet courses”).
How Will These Changes Affect You?
Here is a brief overview of how these changes will affect the Boat Oregon online course:
-
The price of the online exam will increase from $24.50 to $29.50. (The additional state fee for the permanent Oregon Boater Education Card will remain at $10.00 plus a $0.50 processing fee.)
-
The online course will be designed so that:
-
Students will spend at least three hours with the course material before having access to the certification exam.
-
Students must pass a quiz after each chapter before progressing to the next chapter. Failure to pass will require the student to repeat the chapter.
-
Students must pass each chapter quiz and the final certification exam in order to obtain boater certification.
Will the Boater Certification I Earn Now Be Good After March 15, 2010?
If you earn your boater certification by completing the Boat Oregon online course prior to March 15, 2010, your certification will continue to be accepted after March 15, 2010. These changes affect only those students who are certified after March 15, 2010.
Do I Need To Complete This Online Course Before March 15, 2010?
Students taking the current Boat Oregon online course need to complete the course and certification exam by March 14, 2010. The new Boat Oregon online course, which meets the new Oregon State Marine Board’s established regulations, will become available on March 15, 2010. Any students who began but did not complete the course prior to March 14, 2010, will be required to begin again under the new regulations.
