The Texas boating safety education certificate (also referred to as the Texas Boaters License) is proof that a boater has demonstrated basic boating knowledge by passing an approved boating safety course and exam.
Operators must meet the age and boater education requirements shown below in order to operate any of the following vessels legally in Texas:
A person less than 13 years of age may operate only if he or she is supervised by a person who:
A person at least 13 years of age and born on or after September 1, 1993, may operate without supervision only if he or she has passed a boater education course that is accepted by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
The minimum age to take the online boat safety exam is 13 years old.
The online Certification Exam costs $20. There is no charge for the Texas boating safety education certificate.
No. You have unlimited attempts at the Certification Exam; and after you pass, payment of the $20.00 fee will be required.
Your Texas boating safety education certificate will be mailed to your home within 3–4 weeks after you pass the exam.
Upon passing the exam, you may immediately print out a temporary certificate valid for 30 days.

Persons born before Sept. 1, 1993, are not subject to boating education requirements.
