Your Certificate of Course Completion qualifies you to apply for your lifetime Washington Boater Education Card. You will have the option to immediately purchase your Washington Boater Education Card online (for an additional $10 state fee and a $0.50 processing fee). You will receive your card approximately six weeks after you apply.

Or, you may submit a paper application to Washington State Parks at a later date. Your Certificate of Course Completion can be used at any time in the future to apply for your lifetime card, even months or years from now. However, you must allow approximately six weeks from the time you apply to receive your lifetime card.

If you are required by law to have a Washington Boater Education Card, then you must carry it on board the vessel while it is being operated. Your Certificate of Course Completion will be recognized by enforcement officers for up to 60 consecutive days while you await receipt of your lifetime Washington Boater Education Card. After the expiration date, it can still be used to apply for a lifetime card, but will not allow you to legally operate a vessel while you await receipt of your lifetime card.

Passing the Washington boating safety course may make you eligible for a discount on your boat or PWC insurance. Send a copy of your boater safety certificate to your agent and start saving!
