Introducing invasive species into Canadian waters can upset the balance of the ecosystem, thereby harming the environment. Invasive species, such as the emerald ash borer, zebra mussel, sea lamprey, green crab, milfoil, and purple loosestrife, most often spread between waterways by hitching a ride on pleasure craft and trailers. When transplanted into new waters, these organisms proliferate, displacing native species and damaging the water resource.
