When paddling, consider both the water and the air temperature when deciding whether to wear a wetsuit or other cold water protective clothing.

  • If you are less likely to end up in the water, consider nylon fabrics for protection against wind and light rain. For strenuous paddling, wear a breathable material to prevent body heat and moisture from building up.
  • If you are more likely to end up in the water, consider a thin drysuit made of watertight material with rubber seals at the wrists and ankles. One-piece and two-piece drysuits are available. Two pieces, which are joined by a watertight seal, give you the option to combine part of a drysuit with other types of garments.
