Course Outline

To properly fit a life jacket, follow these guidelines. There is no distinction for non-swimmers.

  • For a standard life jacket, loosen all straps, put the life jacket on, and then zip it up. For an inflatable life jacket, wear it over your head (vest style). If it is a belt pack, you can buckle it around your waist with the device in front.
  • Begin by tightening all straps starting from the waist, and adjust any shoulder straps last. Aim for a snug fit without discomfort for both adults and children.
