Boating Citation? Florida Mandatory Education for Violators

Have you received a boating citation? Florida law requires that anyone convicted of a criminal boating violation, a non-criminal boating infraction which resulted in a boating accident, or two non-criminal boating safety infractions within a 12-month period, must enroll in, attend, and successfully complete an approved safe boating course for violators.

Who Needs a Florida Boating Safety Education I.D. Card?

  • Any person who was born on or after January 1, 1988, operating a vessel powered by a motor of 10 horsepower or greater (including PWCs) must have a Florida Boating Safety Education ID Card.
  • The Temporary Boater Education Certificate, which you can print instantly after passing, is your temporary card for 90 days.
