Boating Education

On-screen text: BOATING

Speaker 1: Who needs a boating education certificate?

Speaker 2: People need to have a boating certificate if you’re driving a boat over 25 horsepower. So everybody was required to get their boating certificates. So if you’re 16 years old and driving a boat over 25 horsepower, you need to have taken a state-certified, New Hampshire-certified, NASBLA-approved course.

Speaker 1: Can you drive a boat before you’re 16?

Speaker 2: You can, and that’s a good policy that we have. If you’re under 16, you can drive a boat over 25 horsepower if you’re with a boater who is 18 years old or older and has their boating certificate. It allows children to boat at a younger age, and it gets them involved with boating and maybe a lifelong ambition to do that.

Speaker 1: Why is it important to take boater education?

Speaker 2: Boater education makes everybody safe on the water. People know what to do, what the laws are, what the rules are. And it has made it a safer contribution to boating in the past 10 or 15 years.
