To earn your Michigan Boating Safety Certificate, often called a Michigan boating license, you must complete an approved boating safety course and pass the final exam. After passing, you can print your certificate immediately or request that a PDF be emailed to you.

Michigan boating laws require anyone born on or after July 1, 1996, to carry a Boating Safety Certificate when operating a motorboat over 6 horsepower. Most PWC operators born after December 31, 1978, must also carry a Boating Safety Certificate. All vessels must have U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets for each person on board, and children under 6 years old must wear one while riding on the open deck of any vessel underway.
