You need education if you are 12 through 15 years old, unaccompanied, and will be operating a power-driven vessel or PWC of 10 hp or more in North Dakota.

North Dakota Boating Education Requirements

Anyone under the age of 12 years may not operate a vessel, including a personal watercraft (PWC), powered by a motor of more than 10 horsepower, unless accompanied by a person 18 years or older. Anyone between the ages of 12 and 15 years may operate a vessel, including a personal watercraft (PWC), powered by a motor of more than 10 horsepower only if he or she:

  • Is accompanied by a person 18 years or older or...
  • Has successfully completed an approved boater safety course.

North Dakota Game and Fish Department Requirements

You must be at least 12 years old to take this online course.

You do not have to be a resident of North Dakota to take this online course.
