Do you need Virginia Boating education?

As of July 1, 2015, all PWC operators age 14 and older and motorboat operators 50 and younger must complete a boating safety course.

Beginning July 1, 2016, all PWC operators age 14 and older and all motorboat operators regardless of age need to take a boating safety course.

Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries Requirements

There is no minimum age requirement to take the Boat Virginia.

You do not have to be a resident of Virginia to take this online course.

Virginia Boating License FAQs

The boater education certificate in Virginia is often called a “boating license.” While the certificate is often called a Virginia boating license, the certification does not expire and does not need to be renewed.

What is required to operate a boat in Virginia?

Virginia boating laws require all boaters and PWC (Jet Ski) operators to get certified by completing a boater safety course. This certification is sometimes called the “Virginia boating license.”

How old do you have to be to drive a boat in Virginia?

You must be at least 14 years old to operate a boat or PWC (Jet Ski) in Virginia. All motorboat or PWC operators must also obtain a boating license through an approved VA boating safety course.
