Do you need Illinois Boating education?

You need education if you were born on or after Jan. 1, 1998, and will be operating a vessel powered by a motor of more than 10 hp in Illinois.

Illinois Boating Education Requirements

Anyone under the age of 10 years may not operate any motorized vessel, including the personal watercraft (PWC). Anyone older than 10 years but less than 12 years may only operate a vessel powered by a motor of more than 10 horsepower only if he or she is under a parent or guardian's direct control. Anyone 18 years or older may operate a motorized vessel or PWC without any restrictions.

You must be at least 11 years old to take this online course.
