Do you need Pennsylvania Boating education?

You need education if you will be operating a PWC, and if you were born on or after Jan. 1, 1982, and will be operating a boat over 25 hp in Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission Requirements

There is no minimum age requirement to take the Boat Pennsylvania.

You do not have to be a resident of Pennsylvania to take this online course.

Pennsylvania Boating License FAQs

The boater education certificate in Pennsylvania is often called a “boating license.” While the certificate is often called a Pennsylvania boating license, the certification does not expire and does not need to be renewed.

Do you need a boating license to drive a boat in Pennsylvania?

Pennsylvania boating laws require all boat operators born on or after Jan. 1, 1982, who will be operating a boat over 25 hp to get certified by completing a boater safety course. This certification is sometimes called the “Pennsylvania boating license.”

All PWC operators must complete a boater safety course.

How long does it take to get a boat license?

It is easy to get a boat license in Pennsylvania! Simply complete an approved online boater education course or a classroom course. Boat Ed allows you to study at your own pace, with a minimum of 3 hours. An in-person classroom course typically takes about 8 hours.
