Course Outline

Weather can change very rapidly and create unexpected emergencies for boat and PWC operators. Even meteorologists have trouble predicting rapid changes in the weather. You should always watch for changes in the weather and monitor the weather forecast. As an operator, it is your responsibility to take appropriate action based on the weather.

  • Use a Weatheradio receiver or a VHF marine radio (on the VHF-FM radio band) to get continuous weather forecasts 24 hours a day from the Canadian Coast Guard through Environment Canada’s Weatheradio service. However, this service is not available in all areas.
  • Check current nautical charts before taking your pleasure craft on the water so that you’ll know where to take shelter in the event of foul weather.
