Officer testing for sobriety

District of Columbia law establishes the following penalties.

  • Upon a first conviction, a person may be fined up to $500, imprisoned for up to 90 days, or both.
  • Upon a second conviction within a 15-year period, a person may be fined up to $5,000, imprisoned for up to one year, or both.
  • Upon a third or subsequent conviction within a 15-year period, a person may be fined up to $10,000, imprisoned for up to one year, or both.
