Everybody loves to have fun on the water, whether they’re boating or riding Jet Skis—personal watercraft. Ignition safety switches—really important to have—they prevent injury. What do people need to know?

Officer Inman

An ignition safety switch is a device that attaches to the operator from the boat. If that operator were to be thrown from the boat, the boat would then shut off. It shuts the power off to the motor or motors. It is important to wear that, if an operator is thrown from the boat, so that boat doesn't circle back around to that operator and cause a propeller strike. Or in a personal watercraft, they have to wear one because that boat is so susceptible to falling over, or capsizing, with the operator on it.

Rob

It’s the law for personal watercraft, but everybody should wear one. It’s just common sense.

Officer Inman

Exactly right.

Rob

Awesome. Thanks.
