Kayak Paddles: Flat vs. Spoon Blades
Both symmetrical and asymmetrical blades are available in flat or spoon shapes.

Most beginners use a flat blade. If the kayak flips and you need to roll back over, a flat blade is easier to orient properly under the water.

A spoon blade “grabs” the water and provides more power.
Choose the blade shape based on the type of paddling you plan to do.
