Other Stand-Up Paddleboard Characteristics
You also should consider the board’s rails and depth when selecting a paddleboard.
Rails
The shape and volume of the rails affects the board’s stability.
- Stand-up paddleboards with rounder rails usually are less stable, and those with square rails are more stable. Rounder rails also increase the board’s speed.
- Rails with more volume make the paddleboard more stable.
Depth
A paddleboard’s depth tells how far the fin goes into the water. Depth affects both the board’s stability and its maneuverability in surf. Fins with greater depth give you more control but also have more drag.
