Course Outline

The Western Rivers System is used on the Mississippi River and its tributaries above Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This system is used on some other rivers that flow toward the Gulf of Mexico, as well. In this system:

  • Lateral markers are not numbered.
  • Numbers are given below daymarks. These numbers do not indicate the right or left side of the channel. These numbers give the distance from the river’s mouth.
