Course Outline

Wearing the proper clothing can be critical while paddling. Almost every beginner will capsize at least once and probably several times. After getting soaked and then paddling into an oncoming breeze, you will quickly understand the importance of dressing for immersion. Even on a bright, sunny day, put on your immersion clothing before setting out. After you capsize, it’s too late.

Dress according to the temperature of the water, not the open air. There may be up to a 30° temperature difference between the water and the air. By dressing in layers, you can remove or add layers as necessary.
