Course Outline

If you are less likely to end up in the water while paddling:

  • Consider fleece or pile. These fabrics are soft, warm, and dry quickly. They also work well in combination with the first layer.
  • Add a pullover jacket or vest of polyester fleece or microfleece in cooler weather.

If you are more likely to end up in the water while paddling:

  • Select clothing that allows only a small amount of water to penetrate through to your body. This gives your body time to heat up the water, providing an extra layer of insulation.
  • Consider a neoprene long john (similar to a diver’s wetsuit). It should fit snugly but not too tightly.
